I’m about two weeks away from my first day back at school! I’m sure I will say this every year, but the summer feels distinctly shorter right now than it did back in the start of June. I’ve been in the classroom a few times, just to mentally prep myself more than anything, but it still doesn’t feel quite real yet.
Luckily, I don’t feel terribly nervous. This time last year, I was a wreck: anxious, irritable, focusing on nothing but the thought of trying to control a classroom. I’ve no doubt that I will be anxious during the days immediately prior to my first day with kids, but I’m relatively relaxed for now.
As I go into my second year of teaching, I’ll be writing about both my first year and second year of teaching. So much happened last year, and I’m sure so much will happen this year, that I’d like to write about both. I’ll put which year I’m discussing at the top of the post, like this one.
For now, though, I’m just going to read and relax as much as possible… Goodbye, summer, and hello, second year!
